Abstract

The main objective of this descriptive research is to translate in Filipino the selected Iluko poem, analyze the poems using thematic analysis, determine the appropriateness of the translation and develop lesson plans in teaching Panitikang Panrehiyon. Using the standard in evaluating translation by Santiago, the effectiveness and appropriateness of translation were evaluated.  The evaluation using the following translation techniques: Transference, Addition, Functional Equivalence, Transposition, Loan words/Through Translation, Compensation, One to One Translation, Lexical Equivalence, Amplification, Reduction and Naturalization shows the translations are effective and appropriate. The translated poems were analyzed using thematic analysis and then the researcher developed lesson plans. The lesson plans are in response to the localization in Teaching Panitikang Panrehiyon. The analysis was done in three parts: first, the elements of poetry: Forms/Types of Poetry; Tone; Persona; Use of Image, Symbols, Figures of Speech, and Setting; second, is the analysis of the message; Theme, Universal Values, Social Issues, Culture such as beliefs, tradition, and practices found in the literary pieces and of the people who are the source of the literary pieces (localization); and third, activities relevant to Constructivism were identified to ensure  appropriateness of the material for classroom use. From the analysis, it has been found that local writing reflects the culture of the group and place where the poems originated. Hence, these poems are useful in enriching Filipino Culture and cultivating cultural literacy when developed into lesson plans. The developed lesson plans on the translated poems were evaluated by the experts. It has been proven that the lesson plans are appropriate to use in teaching Filipino under the K-12 Curriculum. The translated and analyzed poem were taught by the researcher and assessed by experts. The over-all rating of the demonstration teaching is Outstanding. Based on the result, using the translated poems which are developed into lesson plans   using   thematic analysis are appropriate materials in teaching Panitikang Panrehiyon The study is limited to evaluation of the translation and content validation of the lesson plans using thematic analysis by experts. It is recommended that the lesson plans be tried out among students for validation and reliability of its appropriateness and effectiveness in teaching Panitikang Panrehiyon.
