Abstract
This research study describes the challenges and adaptive strategies in in-person teaching of Physical Education as an input to teaching enhancement in the District of Panay, Schools Division of Capiz. Inclusion and exclusion criteria in identifying the participants was used. The researcher used a basic qualitative research design and a researcher’s-made interview guide for in-depth interviews and were transcribed, coded, analyzed through thematic analysis. The results of the study revealed that teachers and students have encountered various challenges in the in-person teaching of physical education such as lack and limited facilities and equipment in the conduct of PE classes and activities, less motivation and poor discipline among students, financial concerns that resulted in poor performance, and attendance and punctuality among students. Furthermore, the adaptive strategies employed by the teachers and students to address the challenges met in the in-person teaching of physical education included motivation and proper discipline, reinforcement and recognition, provisions and proper utilization of facilities and equipment, teacher and student support and encouragement, and adapting interactive teaching strategies. The teaching enhancement program outlined in this study provides a structure for consistent expectations across the process while allowing schools to address individual needs. The program is designed to document the expected outcomes of the schools focused on improving teachers’ instruction, particularly in the in-person teaching of physical education.
