Abstract

Workplace anger is a complex phenomenon that significantly impacts employee well-being, organizational productivity, and leadership dynamics. This literature review examines the triggers, perceptions, and management strategies associated with workplace anger. Research highlights that anger often arises from personal attacks, incivility, and job-related stressors, with its manifestation and reception heavily influenced by gender stereotypes and managerial roles. Male leaders frequently benefit from expressing anger, being perceived as assertive and authoritative, while female leaders face backlash due to societal expectations that associate women with warmth and care. Furthermore, unmanaged anger, exacerbated by stress, contributes to reduced productivity, increased absenteeism, and workplace violence. Effective anger management strategies, including stress reduction initiatives, psychoeducational interventions, and fostering emotional intelligence, are vital for mitigating these adverse effects. This review emphasizes the importance of proactive and inclusive approaches to managing workplace anger, highlighting the role of gender-sensitive leadership and systemic organizational support in creating harmonious and productive work environments.
