Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the relationship between adequacy and usability of instructional materials on the teachers’ teaching practices and performance in Home Economics. Specifically, this study aimed to determine the socio-economic characteristics of the teachers in terms of age and sex, educational attainment, national certificate, length of service, length of teaching HE, and location. Respondents of the study were fifty-three (53) senior high school Home Economics teachers currently enrolled in MAT-LITe in Sultan Kudarat State University. Frequency counts, averages and weighted mean were used in analyzing the data. The Correlation was used to test the influence between the level of adequacy and usability of instructional materials in the teaching practices and performance in home economics. Results showed that most of the teacher respondents were bachelor’s degree holders, and have taught the subject Home Economics for 6-8 years. The level of adequacy of the instructional materials in Home Economics has an overall weighted mean of (M = 3.68), the level of usability of the instructional materials in Home Economics has an overall weighted mean of (M = 3.98), which was described as agree. The teaching practices of the teachers handling Home Economics using the available instructional materials have an overall weighted mean of (M = 4.61) which falls under strongly agree. The correlation between the level of usability and the teaching practices is weak positive (r = 0.324) and significant (p > 0.18) which means that the interpretation is significant, and the null hypothesis is rejected. The correlation between the level of adequacy and the teaching practices is negligible (r = 0.0176) and not statistically significant (p > 0.208) which means that the interpretation has no significance. The correlation between the level of usability and the teaching performance is weak negative (r = -0.277) and significant (p > 0.045) which means that the interpretation is significant. The correlation between the level of adequacy and the teaching performance is not significant (r = -0.203) and not statistically significant (p > 0.145) which means that the interpretation has no significance.
