Abstract

Workplace anger management is a critical competency for local government unit (LGU) department heads in the Philippines, whose leadership roles expose them to high levels of stress and interpersonal conflict. This study aimed to examine the extent of anger management among LGU department heads in the Province of Capiz and determine whether personal and professional-related variables influenced their anger management abilities. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational research design, the study collected data from 135 respondents using validated questionnaires that assessed job satisfaction, decision-making abilities, and anger management. Results revealed that the respondents exhibited a “very high” level of anger management across all demographic and professional variables, such as age, sex, civil status, monthly income, length of service, educational attainment, and administrative experience. However, no significant differences were observed in anger management when respondents were grouped according to these variables. The findings suggest that LGU department heads possess well-developed anger management skills regardless of personal or professional factors. This study underscores the importance of sustained organizational support and training programs to further enhance emotional regulation and leadership effectiveness in LGUs.
